Project Result 1: DIGGING Statistical analysis system fo European Digital Teaching Competencies

DIGGING Statistical analysis system for European Digital Teaching Competencies

Digital Competences is a key issue for European Citizens, and therefore there are existing frameworks about this, like Digital Competences Framework for Citizens (DigComp 2.0). So to get citizens with good digital competence, we should start as soon as possible with kids. But for that, we should take care of the digital competences of their teachers. This result will create a framework for teachers which will be common for all the countries in the project. And with that taxonomy as the base, all the questionnaires will be created, to ensure they are measuring all the taxonomy developed. Each partner will create at least 2 questionnaires, and globally we will have a minimum of 14 questionnaires that will be used in the baseline test. This can be easily transferred to other countries, and also to working teachers to design their training programmes. In addition to the previous, R1 is responsible for delivering the technical environment to be used for the participation of users in baseline tests. The tests will be accessible On-line. The system will also provide tools to get statistical reports from the bunch of data compiled from the answers to these questionnaires. The approach is to base the DIGGING platform on the Moodle LMS. In this way, standard Moodle functionality can be used and development effort can be kept to a minimum. The main ideas derived from this approach are: baseline tests will be realised as standard Moodle quizzes. Moodle functionality will be used to inspect individual performance (“quiz attempt review and grading” reports) teachers and students will use regular Moodle accounts (anonymous accounts can also be supported) user accounts will be assigned with the convenient ‘roles’ in the system In addition to that, some extra functionality is required and it will be implemented as a set of Moodle plugins, as administration tools: - to manage the different objects modeled in the system: faculties, teachers, students and baseline tests. - to create a set of statistical reports allowing different levels of aggregation and filtering. Initially identified aggregations and filters could be (the following is just an example and the final design will be decided during the project development): GLOBAL (EU) COUNTRY- REGION-CITY ORGANISATION (FACULTY) TEACHER GROUP STUDENT TEST MODEL (f.i: BaseLine test 1) GENDER AGE - The information in the reports will always be anonymous and it will include for instance: Number of answered tests (total / disaggregated by test model) Average grades (total / disaggregated by competence in the taxonomy) The elements included in this Result are: - the development of a set of plugins for the Moodle platform. - the implementation of a platform for the project, including the specific Moodle setup and configuration. Having a system like this as a Moodle plugin makes it available for any Moodle implementation and therefore means at the same time an innovation and a big chance for transferability.
